Accessibility statement

Last updated: September 2026 (pre-launch draft). This statement covers the TheatrePass website and the app. TheatrePass is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Interview preparation is stressful enough; the platform should never add barriers.

Our legal duty

As a provider of a service to the public in the United Kingdom we have duties under the Equality Act 2010. We must not discriminate against disabled people in the way we provide the service, and we must make reasonable adjustments, including anticipating the adjustments disabled users are likely to need rather than waiting to be asked (sections 20 and 29 of the Act). This statement says how we meet that duty, where we do not yet, and how to ask for an adjustment.

The standard we build to

  • Colour contrast that meets AA, checked against our design tokens when a page is built and reviewed.
  • Full keyboard operability: every interactive element is reachable and usable without a mouse, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Semantic HTML, correct headings, labelled forms and descriptive link text.
  • Motion that respects your system’s reduced-motion preference: with it enabled, animation is disabled.
  • Text for all voice content. Every question the tutor or the interviewer speaks is also shown as text, a live transcript runs during a mock interview so you can read what was said, your own spoken answers are transcribed, and all feedback is written.
  • Alternative text on meaningful images.
  • Every release is checked against WCAG 2.2 AA with automated tests and keyboard checks at phone, tablet and desktop widths.

Voice features

Mock interviews are the heart of TheatrePass, and they are speech-based by design. Every mock interview also shows its prompts and the interviewer's words as text, and all feedback is delivered in text. The Virtual Tutor lets you type an answer when your microphone cannot be used. If speaking is a barrier for you, email us and we will make an adjustment, for example marking typed answers by arrangement, while we build the typed alternatives described below.

Known limitations

We list here what we know does not yet meet the standard, with a workaround where one exists:

  • Timed mock interviews have no typed alternative and cannot be completed without speaking. The interviewer's words are shown as live text. A typed mock is planned; until then, ask us for an adjustment.
  • The typed-answer option in the Virtual Tutor appears only when your microphone cannot be used, not as a choice you can make up front. We are making it a standing option.
  • Peer practice runs on live video with no captions, because our video provider does not yet supply them.
  • The spoken audio of the tutor and the interviewer has no synchronised captions. The same words appear as text on the page, but not in time with the speech.
  • Clinical images in the question banks carry alternative text, but a description cannot always replace what a sighted candidate would take from the image. Tell us if a particular image blocks you and we will provide the information another way.
  • We have not yet commissioned an external accessibility audit. Our checks are our own, and we welcome reports that show us what they missed.

Report a barrier or ask for an adjustment

If you find any part of TheatrePass difficult or impossible to use, or you need an adjustment, email hello@theatrepass.co.uk with the page you were on, what you were trying to do and, if you use one, the assistive technology involved. We treat accessibility reports as priority bugs: we reply within two working days, tell you what we will do and by when, and keep this statement up to date as things are fixed. The privacy policy explains how we handle any information about your health that you choose to share with us when you ask for an adjustment.

If you are not satisfied

If you are not happy with how we respond, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which gives free advice on the Equality Act 2010 and can help you take a complaint further. It is at equalityadvisoryservice.com and on 0808 800 0082. Nothing here limits your right to bring a claim under the Act.
