What to expect

Stations, timings and how you’re scored

An Academic Clinical Fellowship gives you 25 per cent academic time. You're ranked on the academic interview alone, and unless you hold a training number in the specialty, you must also be appointable clinically.

The Academic Interview

30 minutes

Knowledge and achievements

A single online interview of at least 30 minutes, run by the NHS England office hosting the post and scored on NIHR's national scoresheet. A dataset or publication is sent to you no more than 48 hours before.

You explain the data to a scientific panel, then as you would to a lay audience. Then you talk about your achievements, your research experience, why this post and institution, where research could help patients most, and the pros and cons of clinical academic training.

71 academic scenarios included.

How the final rank is scored
