What to expect

Stations, timings and how you’re scored

The MSRA decides who is interviewed (about the top 1,200 scorers for 2027), then the two interview stations make up 90 per cent of your final score. In 2026 NHS England recorded about 6.9 applications for each post.

The Management and Clinical Station

15 minutes

Clinical skills

One management scenario and two clinical scenarios, 5 minutes each. Each one is put to you in the station, so you answer it on the spot. Our clinical scenarios cover emergencies and patients who become unwell after an operation.

Each answer is scored on judgement under pressure, prioritisation and communication, plus clinical knowledge for the clinical cases and probity and safety for the management one.

62 management and clinical scenarios included.

The Portfolio Station

15 minutes

Commitment to specialty

In 2026 it opened with your 3-minute prepared presentation and 2 minutes of questions on it, then two 5-minute questions on portfolio domains the assessors choose. They read your uploaded evidence before you join.

The presentation is scored on content, presentation skills and questioning, and the portfolio answers on skills and knowledge. The assessors pick the domains, so only claim what you can talk through in detail.

21 portfolio scenarios included.
